Technical Support Specialist

Job Description:
To provide remote and on-site technical support to SourceTrace clients in Latin America. The Technical Support specialists responsibilitieswill include the following roles:

• Work closely with STS engineering team to respond to clients’ needs and requests for technical support
• Work with other systems vendors with which the deployed solution may be integrated to resolve communication and data transmission problems that may occur 
• Design and create the second tier of support for the solution as is required to be a sustainable model
• Respond quickly, efficiently and effectively to calls from the users when technical problems occur
• Work with product development team to develop work-arounds and enhancements when required
• Develop specifications for solution modifications and upgrades that will fix bugs and/or enable additional functionality that are required by users and/or partners
• Write supporting technical document, track bug reports, and otherwise keep detailed records of technical problems, workarounds, and solutions
• Assist project team on an as needed basis to train and assist in-the-field operators and users
• Submit and track orders for replacement equipment that may be required 
• Diagnose and “troubleshoot” any technical support issues to help address any technical or other problems the customer may be experiencing with SourceTrace’s solutions
• Interact with clients in a professional and competent way
• Report bugs to SourceTrace engineering and work with engineering to resolve them

Experience and Qualifications:

• A minimum of five years working in technical support and/or field engineering, with experience in hardware support, specifically with electronic handheld devices, including point of sale, PDA, or mobile phones,wireless communications including wireless data transfer
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline, such as computer science; ideally vendor specific technical support and maintenance courses taken from leading POS hardware vendors, including Verifone or Sagem
• Experience working with a software provider, especially one providing wireless or handheld-based solutions

Knowledge, Skills and Requirements

• Good understanding of information and communication technologies with an emphasis on hardware, networks, and servers
• Thorough understanding and experience with the following: J2EE and/or J2ME programming and support, C programming, Internet Service Provider (ISP) systems and architectures, wireless telco systems and architectures (in particular, GSM Circuit-switched Data), Ethernet hubs/routers together with PC network setup, PC setup, maintenance, and support, Windows 2000
• Financial/banking industry and/or coffee industry experience, in Costa Rica added plus
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills
• Highly responsive to calls for assistance
• Good communication and training skills
• Detail oriented work style with good documentation and writing skills
• Pro-active, recognizing and addressing needs before they escalate
• Available nights and mornings to communicate with the global engineering team as necessary
• A good sense of humor and positive, proactive attitude
